I am Leevi Rauhalahti, an emerging genderqueer dancer, choreographer, and performer from Finland. After graduating from Iceland University of the Arts, BA in Contemporary Dance Practices program (2024), I’ve been freelancing around the Nordics, especially in Finland, Estonia, and Iceland.
In my practice, I work with the genderqueer identity in its inevitable vessel – the body. I’m curious about how the ways our bodies take shape in space have gendered connotations, and how through understanding this, the mover can exit this often binarily contaminated state, towards a secret third option.
Extreme physicality is something I associate closely with my craft, and I’m eager to figure out new ways of stretching my limits in a safe manner. My rural heritage inspires me to collaborate ambitiously across disciplines, as well as to push dance towards new audiences and contexts. Additionally, I have a soft spot for popular culture references, acrobatics, and dancers using their voice on stage.
